4 Stars Excellent tactical military FPS
Mirrors Rainbow Six 3 in many ways…good graphics. Love the way the enemy uses his rifle to hobble away when you shoot him in the leg. Many of the same tactics are still used today in Advanced Warfighter…

4 Stars Next level shooter

Far from your typical squad based shooter; Ghost Recon has a few things that distinguish it from the rest. You have two squads at your command, Alpha and Bravo; each has a squad leader and two additional squad mates. Each squad operates as a unit and cannot be separated into individuals. However, you can tell a squad to go over to a certain place, like making Alpha team hide at the top of a cliff and pick off any incoming enemy soldiers heading toward your position as you make your way to take out an enemy hideout.

GR has four different classes for each member of your squads (e.g. demolition and your basic infantry). The game does not stop there it allows you to pick each members weapon and secondary weapon (which there are a lot of). Ghost Recon has some RPGish elements to it. The more any member of the GR team is used, the better his skills will get. If you get a squad mate hurt in battle he will have to take some time out of action if you want him to heal or you can keep him in the fray, risking the loss of a soldier. If you lose a man on the field he is gone for the rest of the mission.

The battles in this game are fast, furious and truly intense. You will get breaks in the action to catch your breath. The AI in this game will have you second guessing almost every thing you do, they will suppress you with fire and have other members try to flank you. They will use this maneuver often but on occasion they will employ other ways to fill you full of lead. You must use strategy; you cannot go into an enemy base with guns blazing and expect to be successful.

Although there are now new and improved titles in the Ghost Recon series, this is all in all a great game which is now playable on the Xbox 360 as well.

5 Stars One of Xbox’s best Shooters ever!!!
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon is an incredibly fun first person shooter. If you like military squad based games, this is definately for you. The graphics (when it came out) were pretty top-notch and had some extremely fun multiplayer gametypes. I actually didn’t start playing this game until Island Thunder was already out (which I played like crazy!) and it still held up as a great game. The sounds in the game really made it seem realistic, like you were actually there on the battlefield. I mean, looking back at it today, the game doesn’t hold up in terms of graphics and presentation, but the gameplay is still one the best shooters there has been. Everything worked in it, it wasn’t that hard to pick up and play, and the fact that it actually played like a tactical shooter made it stand out from the rest.

Okay, let’s now talk about it’s Xbox Live play. In simple terms, “it was fantastic.” There were plenty of maps available, all with different environments. You could choose what class you wanted to play as, Rifleman, Snipers, Support, and Demolition, and then pick your gun kit, which there were also plenty to choose from. You could play the multiplayer portion of this game for hours on end and not get bored, something that’s hard to come by these days (except GRAW, hehe).

Presentation:

One big gripe about the presentation of this game was that the menus were kinda difficult to navigate through (kinda like GR2). This drove me nuts a bit, but this was fixed by the time Island Thunder came out.

Graphics:

In it’s day, Ghost Recon for the Xbox had some pretty sweet graphics, unlike other games on the market back then. It seemed pretty realistic and along with the sound made a great gaming experience.

Sound:

The sound in this game was pretty fantastic when it was released. Everything seemed very realistic and gave the gamer a great gaming experience. Explosions, bullets firing…exerything was great!

Gameplay:

This was probably my favorite aspect of this game. It played like a great military squad based shooter and was very tactical, unlike the run and gun games we find on the market today. The gameplay is truly what gave this game it’s kick.

Lasting Appeal:

With it’s great multiplayer aspects and Live capabilities, this game had great lasting appeal. People played it up to and through GRIT, and some even played till GR2 came out. Talk about lasting appeal…this game definatley had some!!!

3 Stars Ghost Recon
I’m a big fan of Ghost Recon 2 and Summit Strike. These really didn’t tickle my fancy with the gameplay of it and everything else. I guess you have to start and work your way up, uinstead of working your way backwards throught the Ghost Recon series as I did.

3 Stars Get it cheap
I bought this game when it first came out for the Xbox due to the fact it was one of the early FPSs available for LIVE play back then. Fisrt off the menu system is TERRIBLE! It is cluncky and confusing and the button presses don’t always take during game setup. Secondly it is not well done on LIVE at all. The most the average connection will be able to handle is about 3 players online which due to the large maps is pretty dissapointing. Little annoyances like not being able to step over a 2″ piece of rock jetting out from a cliff edge can get tiresome. Now the good news as I see it. If you give this game the time it needs to hook you then you will enjoy it. Once you get comfotable with the controls and put the little problems behind you this game is quite fun in single player. Shooting a guy from across the river with the 50cal sniper rifle is worth the HUGE amount of work required to unlock it. I actually completed this game on the hardest setting in order to unlock everything and really got into it. The graphics are good enough but this game was a year or two old when it was ported to the Xbox so today (late 2005) it shows it’s age graphically. As cheap as this game is today it is definately worth it in my opinion but if you have no patience then you might want to pass it up. The best games are generally the hardest, they are the games one goes back to play 1-3 years later. (Moto GP2, Ghost Recon, PGR2).

2 Stars Save your $
The controls are difficult at best and the game won’t move past a

mission (PS3) you just die for no reason , unless this disc I got

is causing the problem. Ghost Recon, COD 4 and other games similar

more believable and no problems with other similar games . They

must of had there rookies make this one and you will see the price

difference from other similar and better quality games also.

5 Stars Underrated - This game rocks !
This game has been trashed by the Video game reviews, and even players for various reasons. Let me start off by saying a) I have no interest in online play (I’m not 13, and able to play excessively) - So a 1 player campaign is preferrable b.) I’ve finished COD4 and I PREFER Soldier of Fortune..why? Because I get to actually see damage occur to my victims, for one, adds alot of realism, than to watch them just fall down in COD4…also, I get to use a SNIPER rifle , or any weapon…where COD4 , outside of an early “Sniper Mission”, I just mow down excessive number of soldiers with an automatic weapon all game with COD4… The AI has been questioned, but its not SO bad.., alot like Castle of Wolfenstein (old days)..

Actually COD4 would tee me off as my own computer mates would get in my way..and COD4 AI isnt flawless by any means…

So if you want to have fun, and some “realism” to your enemies damage, pick it up. It was $39 , and I think well worth it. I love this game.

1 Star wow this is bad
the best thing about this game is that I rented it and didn’t buy it. It was probably the wrong game to play after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is a game so much better it pains me to mention the two in the same sentence.

3 Stars Soldier of Fortune PS3 Review
what can i say about soldier of fortune payback for the ps3? its pretty, its bloody, and its fun. but its not all good. heres my review

good: beutiful and shiny enviorments

it is VERY bloody

great powerful guns

bad: enemies are hard to kill

not a wide variety of guns

enemies pop out of nowher behind you

bad aiming

some levels are EXTREMELY hard

overall: this gam could have turned out good, but it is just an average FPS on ps3. 3/5

1 Star SOF dissapointment
This game is a complete dissapointment. Sof Payback is a downgrade from Sof Double Helix. The landscape/body modeling, and the variety of weapons are the only positive gains. The story line is uncreative and very generic. Gameplay lasts about 4.5 hours on normal. Activsion was obviously trying to sell the name and hope that us Sof Veterans would blindly go out and buy the game. If you have to play this RENT IT, don’t waste your money buying it. Listed below are the negatives that I discovered while playing.

1. No Random Mission Generator

2. Unbalanced enemy AI

3. Faulty Partical Physics “bullets hitting you while your behind solid cover”

4. Very toned down gore. “blood spray and detachable limbs is the full extent”

5. Short ultra linear missions

6. Sniper rifles with no missions that would deem one worthwile

7. Clanky controls

8. Questionable Replay Value
