User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars GTA Vice City Meets Dawn of the Dead

If you love GTA Vice City and the story line of Dawn of the Dead movie (2004 version), you will love this game! I was surprised that I haven’t heard of this game till lately.

3 Stars It was a birthday gift for a friend
I bought this for my friends birthday, and I don’t know if he has even played it yet since we’ve been so busy with school. But the game did arrive promptly and in perfect condition.

3 Stars Better zombie games out there; not bad
I bought this Xbox game because I read a decent review on GameSpot and I like survival horror games…it was cheap so I gave it a shot.

It’s not bad, but like many others have said, the load times are kinda long and there’s very few places to save.

Another annoyance was the game throwing a multitude of missions at you while in the middle of another mission. Can’t I just concentrate on this one mission that’s tough enough, without that dorky janitor telling me that there are 3 survivors here and 2 survivors there to rescue elsewhere?! I’m just a photographer, for crying out loud!!

Frankly, DH and I couldn’t even get through the shootout scene at the food court! It was frustrating and even GameFaqs was no help! I’m here to kill zombies, not take out some wacky long-haired living dude.

I’ll keep trying, but Left 4 Dead and RE5 are a lot more fun and have more of my attention at the moment.

2 Stars Close; not Quite
Dead rising finds you in the shoes of a reporter investigating a quarantined town in Colorado. You have little say in the opening part of the game: your character just kind of hops through cut-scenes into the first part. That lost a star immediately: I don’t care for games that use convenience to move the story rather than player choice.

The point of the game, at first, is to survive a specific amount of time and collect evidence. When you collect sufficient evidence, your character will start to put the pieces together and learn what is going on in the town. Obviously, zombies are involved.

The game takes place in 3rd person and the controls are easy enough. When you’re fighting hordes of zombies, it is a button-masher style of game. Switching weapons and checking your status is easy and straightforward. The game scores points with intuitive controls.

The story and its unfolding drama feel a bit weak and ad-hoc. It was hard to get involved. I felt led by the nose in this linear drama. The story seemed sterile, uninteresting, and just plain boring. The characters never impressed.

The graphics are great–sometimes too great. The gore is excessive in some plays, but I guess it’s appropriate given that you’re mutilating zombies with an array of insane weapons. The sounds are gut-wrenching and create a nice, horror-fest atmosphere.

The game is fun to an extent. I was expecting a stronger, more involving storyline, and was disappointed to find it very linear and uninteresting. Story points are revealed, but you have no idea what they mean until much later–I hate that concept of showing you something you can’t possibly understand until the end. It’s a game, not an indie film.

There’s a ridiculous amount of carnage, which should appeal to gamers who enjoy visceral action. Anything can be used as a weapon: plants, skateboards, chainsaws, guns, lumber, golf clubs, etc. The mall that serves as the game’s setting is alive and full of shops to explore.

All in all, this game is a decent buy for the price but don’t expect too much. It’s a slug-fest that will make you smile, but a story that will make you frown.

5 Stars Zombies, mayhem, blood n guts, a clown gone phycho with 2 chainsaws what more could you want???
Capcom are no strangers to zombies, after all they did make Resident Evil and they have gone zombie nuts with Dead Rising think of it as State of Emergency meets Dawn Of The Dead and dude this game is fun.

Dead Rising puts you in the shoes of photojournalist Frank who trying to uncover scoop on why this small town is overruned with the living dead and you 3 days to find out before the chopper that droped you off on the roof of the a shopping mall leaves you behind!.

The amount of zombies that are on the screen coming after you is insane you get a sense that you are fighting a world full of zombies, so it’s a good thing you are in a shopping mall, anything can be used as a weapon and I mean everything big or small.

How you play the game is up to you, you don’t have to do the story you can just spend the game seeing how many zombies you can kill before your time is up, but watch out for the crazed survivors that sometimes are waiting for you.

This is a must-have game for gamers or fans of zombie films.
